Exercise 1: Non-Human Persona Template

Goal: To rapidly sketch the perceptual and behavioural world of a non-human entity.

Instructions

Choose a non-human animal or ecological agent to work with. If you don’t have one in mind, use the Sensory Channels Deck of Cards to help you select or discover a relevant being.

  1. Use the Non-Human Persona Template to fill out:

    • Name / Species

    • Senses / Environment

    • Needs / Affordances

    • What does it ignore? What does it notice?

  2. Share your persona with the group, or use it as the starting point for a short speculative narrative. You can focus on a moment in the life of this non-human animal or ecological agent — how it senses a specific situation, responds to a challenge, or navigates a familiar environment.
