What it is
The Physio-Ecological Axes Wheel helps explore how non-human animals inhabit the world. It invites users to consider the dimensionality of an animal’s Umwelt, how it moves through and relates to its physical and ecological environment.
Think about a deep-sea fish: it lives in darkness, under crushing pressure, drifting slowly near the seabed. Its Umwelt is dense, still, and tactile-shaped by depth, silence, and the absence of light.
Why it matters
Helps to randomise perspective
Disrupts habitual, human-centred thinking
Encourages speculative and empathetic engagement
Makes visible what might otherwise go unnoticed
